POSITION OVERVIEW/

As the Corporate Controller, you are a recognized subject matter expert in corporate finance, accounting operations, and regulatory compliance. Operating autonomously in a complex and fast-paced environment, you lead the enterprise-wide accounting and finance operations function for Canada and the US, providing strategic financial leadership and technical guidance. You are instrumental in ensuring accurate financial reporting, developing internal controls, overseeing budgeting processes and financial governance, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with both Canadian and international regulatory frameworks. Your expertise and influence will directly impact the organization’s financial integrity, operational resilience, and strategic direction.

RESPONSIBILITIES/

  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and Operations teams across Canada and globally to ensure end-to-end accounting integrity.
  • Provide accounting and financial insight to business unit leaders and project owners, helping drive informed decision-making.
  • Represent Canada’s finance perspective in global policy decisions, system rollouts, and audit planning.
  • Lead the preparation and review of Canadian legal entity financial statements in accordance with IFRS (and/or ASPE, as applicable).
  • Oversee all accounting operations including General Ledger, AP/AR, Payroll, and Tax ensuring alignment with local and global accounting policies and standards
  • Act as the principal authority on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, leases, foreign currency translation, consolidation, and intercompany transactions.
  • Work closely with external auditors during annual and interim audits, managing the audit process, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of all Canadian tax filings and American filings (income, sales tax, withholding), working with internal tax teams and/or external advisors
  • Maintain and enhance a strong internal control environment to ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant local, state, and federal regulations in compliance with SoC.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in Canadian regulatory or tax requirements; assess business impact and advise leadership accordingly.
  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory filings (e.g., GST/HST, T2s, SRED).
  • In compliance with SoC. conduct reviews of key processes, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions or process enhancements.
  • Develop and deliver documentation, memos, and position papers to support accounting conclusions and audit evidence.

QUALIFICATION/

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, including controllership roles or public accounting background.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, audit, compliance, and financial systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in fast-paced, high-accountability environments with limited resources.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience implementing or scaling ERP systems, NetSuite preferred
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP, with a strong understanding of complex accounting areas and operational accounting.
  • Operates independently in a high-complexity environment, taking full ownership of outcomes.
  • Recognized as a go-to expert for technical accounting guidance within the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail, paired with the ability to see the big picture and communicate financial impacts clearly.
  • Experience supporting audits, investor due diligence, and financial planning processes.
