Assistant Controller

JSI is seeking an energetic, self-starter to fill a position as Assistant Controller to report to the Controller. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded finance professional with experience or exposure to all facets of the controllership functions, A/P, A/R, revenue recognition, financial statement preparation and payroll. They will perform the following:
Finance
- Prepare monthly financial statements including:
- Updating and reviewing monthly continuity schedules.
- Highlighting any necessary adjustments.
- Providing variance analysis vs historical or budget information as applicable.
- Working with external accountants to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
- Work collaboratively with the Operations teams:
- To ensure revenue and expenses related to shipments are recorded in the proper period against the proper revenue stream(s).
- Review and follow-up on the status of upcoming customer orders.
- As an experienced team member, you should be comfortable enough with each position to:
- Provide guidance to AP and AR staff to help ensure they meet their targets.
- Assist or provide coverage for periodic absences such as vacation or sick days.
Payroll
- Work closely with the payroll admin to review payroll and to assist with processing when necessary.
- Meet regularly with the payroll admin and HR team to ensure each payroll and year-end payroll activity is complete and correct.
- Support year end payroll activities and reporting.
Logistics
You will be required to learn specific logistics skills if you do not already possess them as a backup to Logistics Analyst:
- The ability to organize the movement of our goods with shippers.
- Create the necessary documents for shipments to reach their worldwide destination(s).
Qualifications

Have at least 5 years’ combined experience working in similar roles.

Have obtained or is in the process of attaining an accounting designation.

Have strong inter-personal and organization skills.

Be able to thrive while working under tight deadlines and are capable of adjusting to changing requirements etc.

Have a high level of proficiency with tools such as MS Excel, Adobe PDF etc.

Experience working in an ERP program.

Experience or exposure to ERP or other system transformations an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a government security clearance.
How We Work
You will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
